General Frequently Asked Questions

What can I do to prevent infections?
Hand washing is the best method to prevent infections. In order to protect residents, staff wash their hands often, and residents and visitors are encouraged to do the same. Immunization is an important precaution that should be taken by all seniors and individuals who are frequent visitors in a long-term care facility. Recommended: Single dose of tetanus and diphtheria booster every ten years, single dose of pneumococcal vaccine at the age of 65 or over, and a flu shot every fall.

What are your visiting hours?
Visitors are a very important part of the resident's life and we encourage regular visits. Accordingly we practice an open hours visitation policy with consideration for the comfort and schedule of all residents.

How often are meals served?
There are three meals and three snacks offered each day. All meals are served in the main dining room and family and friends are welcome to join in a meal for a small fee of $5 (please notify the business office 24 hours in advance to reserve a spot in the dining room). Breakfast is at 8am, Lunch is at 12pm and Supper is at 5pm.

How are medications handled?
Medications and/or treatments are prescribed by a physician and are administered by a RN or RPN with the use of our in house pharmacy.

There is 24 hour Registered Nursing care, but what about doctors?
There is a facility physician. If your family physician is willing and able to fulfill the requirements of visits to the facility, medical off-hour coverage, residents can retain their own doctor. We find most family physicians are unable to make these commitments but are very happy to act as a resource to the facility physician. If you are seeing a specialist in the community and are able to attend his/her clinic or office, we will support you in maintaining this connection.

Is smoking allowed?
There are clearly designated outdoor smoking areas at the facility. Smoking is not permitted in any other areas for safety reasons and in consideration of others.

How does the laundry service work?
General laundry services are provided on the premises. All clothing should be machine washable. Permanent Press clothing is preferred. To keep clothing items sorted, free labels are provided on admission which we'll happily affix. All clothing items must be labeled with the resident's name.
